What is motivation? Motivation enhances one’s strength and influences his behavior. In layman’s terms, “Motivation is that energy or drive that helps us stay focused, positive towards life and achieving our goals.” Stay motivated because motivation is all about how high you can bounce when you hit absolute rock bottom.

It can change our life, give us faith, instill hope and help us follow and achieve what we want. We can get motivated by our physiological, behavioral or social needs. Motivation can be internal and come from within, or external where we derive it from some outside factor.

We all have some goals in life that we want to achieve. We want to stay focused and work towards achieving them. But, in this process, we face obstacles at times. While moving towards our goals, we get distracted by negative thoughts, negative people and negative circumstances. When we face such situations, we lose focus and get demotivated. We should work towards keeping ourselves focused and motivated.

Case Study

Andy completed his MBA with flying colors and got a good job with a reputed company as an Assistant Manager. He was excited about this new beginning and was working hard to prove himself. Within a few months, his company suffered a huge financial loss and decided to terminate some employees to cope with it.

Andy’s career was at stake. He could not deal with this sudden shock and started feeling sad and depressed. After a week, he was terminated with some other employees. As a result, he locked himself in his house and lost all hope to be successful.

One day his door bell rang. He opened the door. A person was sitting in a wheelchair accompanied by his young son. They were trying to sell some products. Andy was surprised that a person with a physical challenge was trying to earn his living and not only that, but with a smile!

Andy thought, if a person in such difficult conditions is not giving up hope, then why am I not trying? This incident motivated him and he decided to step out and search for a new job. Now, he wanted to start his career again on a bright note.

Such is the power of this positive energy called MOTIVATION. We often use this term, but, few of us understand its importance or the effect it can have on our life and our personalities.

Motivation Comes from Within

For that, we need to understand what makes us lose motivation:

  • Lack of focus on the task or goal.
  • Lack of self confidence and self belief.
  • Lack of positive energy around us.
  • Lack of clarity and direction.
  • Mismanagement of time and resources.

It becomes easy to stay motivated when we know what makes us demotivated.

Here are Some Tips to Stay Motivated

  1. Set short term goals or targets rather than long ones. Focusing on short term goals is easier.
  2. Make a plan and try to follow it.
  3. Read positive and inspirational books and quotes.
  4. When feeling low, listen to your favorite song, or take a walk. It helps you feel light and happy.
  5. Manage your time and resources well. Make a to-do list and keep track of your expenditures.
  6. Be clear about what you want and how you want to get there, work on your plan for achieving your set goal.
  7. Most important: believe in yourself. Everything starts and ends here.
  8. Think of positive outcomes. It helps you stay motivated.

Sometimes, even after doing all this, we still might become demotivated and lose track. At times, monotony sets in and we stop feeling excited about what we are doing.

To handle such a phase, the best way is to take a break from your normal routine. Go out to watch a movie, meet your friends or if possible, go out for a small vacation. It helps you think and analyze what you are doing and you come back with more enthusiasm and more focus and motivation.

Conclusion – Stay Motivated

We all know what is written above, we all are aware that its true, but still it becomes difficult for us to follow this and stay motivated. It is difficult but not impossible.

We should believe in ourselves, our dreams and work towards achieving them. For that, its extremely important to stay focused and motivated. We should believe in our dreams.

Do not forget to keep dreaming. Dream big! Let your dreams fuel your desire to get closer to your goals. Write your dreams for yourself in a diary or a journal and constantly refer to them so that you do not forget or lose sight of the objective.

Honestly take credit of your accomplishments and stay motivated to reach new milestones. When in doubt, say, I CAN AND I WILL. Motivation has a lot of power. It can change our life, give us faith, instill hope and help us follow and achieve what we want. So try to stay motivated, try to stay happy!!!
