Long before the availability of medicine, people used to depend on Indian home remedies to cure almost everything. Quick relief and easy access to pills led to the fading effect for home treatment.

Let me share a few Indian home remedies for common ailments.

For cough and cold in the winter

Boil four basil leaves, four to five black pepper, two or three cloves, a small piece of cinnamon, half spoon sugar, two green cardamom, one black cardamom and half teaspoon of aniseed in one-and-a-half cups water till it boils down to half-cup.

Filter it and drink it lukewarm before going to bed. Repeat it 2 or 3 times a day for 3 days, you will get amazing relief.

For sprain in body

Make a chapatti and cook it only from one side (do not turn to cook the other side). Pour a few drops of mustard oil and three-fourth spoon of turmeric power on top of the uncooked portion. Remove from heat then apply it slowly and gently on the sprained area while still hot.

Once the chapatti gets lukewarm and you are able to better-tolerate the heat, tie it with a bandage on the affected area. Repeat this twice a day for 3-4 days. This will give you instant relief to the sprained area.

When there is a boil

Heat a betel leaf on tava, sprinkle few drops of ghee and spread pure vermillion on it. Place the paste side on the boil and bandage it. Do this twice a day and in 3 days the boil will burst.

Press the boil and clear the pus. Then clean the wound with Dettol and bandage with Betadine ointment. Within two-to-three days the wound will dry.

When you get a cut

In case of a cut from some sharp thing such as knife (or any wound with excessive bleeding) immediately apply turmeric powder on the cut and press the affected area gently. It will stop bleeding. Consult a doctor to check for any major injury.
