7 Keys To Attract Ideal Clients To Your Business

attract clients

I work with business owners around the world who want to attract clients and grow a lucrative practice of “ideal” clients. Contrary to popular belief, it is not as hard as people seem to think. Nearly everyone I speak with has the same issues and more often than not – they experience frustration around people approaching them only to tell them they aren’t ready to sign up yet or want to go away and think about it.

Become the “Go To” person

I coach my clients on becoming the “Go To” person in their industry so that they naturally stand out as the person to solve their ideal client’s problems.

Being the “Go To” person means you naturally become the choice person to work with on an issue or subject. When you position yourself in this way, you attract clients who are ready to work with you before they make contact (which is ideal for both of you) rather than wasting your time with people who aren’t ready to commit or invest.

They feel good about coming to you, feel like they know you and trust you with their problem or situation. This really is the key here, creating a mutually beneficial relationship with your ideal clients.

Ways to attract clients

Here are 7 ways you can attract clients who are ready to work with you.

1. Pre-qualify prospects

If you are a coach, consultant or trainer, make sure that you are only doing consults or strategy sessions with people who you have pre-qualified to work with you. That way, you know if they are a good fit for you and if they are ready to take the next step and start working with you. You can make sure to:

  • Ask about their budget,
  • What sort of situation they are currently in and,
  • What they are ultimately trying to achieve.

Whatever industry you are in, pre-qualifying potential clients or customers is a great way to make sure that you are spending time with the right people who are much more likely to want and be ready to work with you.

2. Don’t be afraid to turn down clients who are not ideal

When you are looking for clients it can be tempting to take people on who are not ideal because you need the money.  Try to resist the impulse to do this and focus your energy on working with people who are ideal clients and customers for your business.

Whilst it can seem like a good idea at the time, taking on clients who are not ideal will actually cost you more in the long run because they can drain your energy (which can affect your other clients) and take your focus away from the people that you do love working with.

3. Create expert content

Writing for different websites did amazing things for my career as it got me in front of an international audience. Think about the type of content that you can create on your blog or for websites that positions you as an expert whilst teaching and informing people about the work you do.

4. Own your piece of the market

Are you naturally funny and goofy? Own that. Do you mix business with spirituality? Own that. What ever your “thing” is, OWN IT. One of the best things you can do to attract clients who are ready to work with you is to be authentic and own your piece of the market.

Instead of trying to be like someone else or trying to fit it, let the authentic you come through.

Why is this so good for business? Because the people who resonate with those things about you will be drawn to your authenticity.

5. Be an example for your ideal clients

I taught this in “Attract Your Ideal Clients”. When clients look at you they should see the result they want to get from working with you. You’ll want to be an example for them to follow and you do that by walking your talk and taking the actions you are talking about.

Growth never occurs when we are comfortable and safe, and one of the best ways to attract clients who want to work with you and are ready to make that investment in themselves, is to ensure that you are constantly growing yourself.

6. Raise your profile

When people see you in the media, they naturally associate you with being an expert.

My background is in PR and marketing. So I am trained to know how to position things in a way that make them attractive to buy. It’s the same whether you are a coach, consultant or restaurant! Getting you and your work featured in the media is one of the best ways to get clients to come to you because they are already engaging with you and your work long before they make initial contact!

7. Invest in yourself

If you want to attract clients that are ready to invest in themselves, then you need to invest in yourself. Make sure that you are getting coached yourself or work with a really good business consultant to help you grow your business and audience.

When looking for a coach or mentor make sure that the person you choose to work with has what you want. It sounds simple enough but it is important to make sure that the person you choose to help you achieve your goals has the lifestyle that you also want to create.
