Motherhood is the blessing of God to woman. Though man and woman both are responsible for the miraculous creation but only women can experience this. Man does not undergo such amazing transformation.

The miraculous feeling

Only a mother has the privilege to enjoy every movement of the child, even when child is still in the womb. The act of birth giving is a miraculous combination of pain and pleasure simultaneously. Mother bears the suffering caused by the labor pains but forgets them immediately on hearing baby’s first cry.

Motherhood in real sense

Motherhood is the other name of devotion, love, caring, protection and happiness for her children. The responsibility of a woman does not end here, she is responsible for future happiness and well being of the child for which proper functioning of family is important.

Family unit

Woman illuminates the home through glory of motherhood. It is she who knows that for the proper upbringing of her child a healthy family atmosphere is important. She strives hard to maintain a perfect balance, whether it is between father and child or between the siblings. Through her acts and guidance she teaches her children to face the hard realities of life so that they remain successful in every field.

Mother is considered superior than anyone else.

Our scriptures Manu Smriti says (ii 45) :

From the point of view of reverence due,

A teacher is ten fold superior to a mere lecturer

A father a hundred fold to a teacher and

A mother, a thousand fold to a father.

The happiness of the mother does not lie in challenging the father in his own field but lies in the sweet smiles and comforts of her children for which she sacrifices her days and nights.

Mother is a protector for her children. If a child is deprived of mother the whole world looks empty. For a child there is no refuge, no defense and no one as dear as the mother. There is no substitute for mother.

Mother surpasses all boundaries

The changing lifestyle has forced both the parents to work. Even though today’s mother is career-oriented, still the priority of being a mother hasn’t changed. Whenever she has to choose between career and child she has smilingly chosen the child. I have come across many women echelons who preferred to sit at home to enjoy the upbringing of her child. The responsibility is not limited to make her child a good human being but also to give the society and the country a well-balanced citizen. This is one face of motherhood.

Changing face of motherhood

With the changing trend of society – the young and educated woman has adopted the western methods. She has turned towards motherhood through surrogacy, by live-in-relationship, by being single parent or by adoption. But the feeling to sacrifice anything for her child has not changed.

Financially poor are selling their womb to give a better life to her children. Surrogate mother is doing a good job by sacrificing herself for the sake of her children and simultaneously giving a new life to childless couples.

A study by the Family and Child Psychology Research Centre at City University, London, UK in 2002 concluded that surrogate mothers rarely had difficulty relinquishing rights to a surrogate child and that the intended mothers showed greater warmth to the child than mothers conceiving naturally.

Mother and child relationship

Mother and child relationship in real sense is beyond words. It is as pious and pure as a dew drop, sweeter than sugar, stronger than Himalaya.

Mother this single word encompasses a tremendous emotional volume of love, selflessness, sacrifice, security, and calm response. She is the reflection of one’s own body.

Tribute to motherhood

Let us not forget, “had she not given us birth and brought up us with her own blood, we would not have seen this beautiful creation of God i.e. my own mother.”

There is no mode of life that is superior to serving one’s mother. I salute MOTHERHOOD.
