Ways to Deal with Boring Tasks

Deal with Boring Tasks

Can’t deal with boring tasks? Irritating tasks or boring routines have always been in everybody’s life and in that sense, you are not alone. However, no matter how much you procrastinate or resist those boring tasks, you still have to do them in one way or the other.

Otherwise you have to face the consequences for not doing those boring but highly important tasks. You know what I mean! For instance, no matter how much you procrastinate that task of washing dirty dishes or for that matter any house hold tasks, you will eventually still have to do it.

There are so many tasks which are irritating or boring but are important and you cannot afford to just not do them. So what is the way out? You can follow a few useful ways that can help you deal with boring tasks. Here are some easy ways.

Do not think too much about it; just start doing it

One of the most common ways to deal with boring tasks is not to give too much thought to them; just do them mechanically. In fact, do not think about it in advance as it increases the boredom. Keep your mind somewhere else and let your body do those boring but important tasks. Actually, irritation or boredom is only a state of mind—not of body.

You can listen to your favorite music when performing that task. Music keeps your mind engrossed in its sweet tunes.

Find an alternative way to do it

If you try, you might find an alternative way to do it that might break your boredom. Doing a task in a different way can make it simpler and less boring. For instance, if you are cleaning your home, you can start cleaning room by room instead of starting from kitchen which is quite a very tedious task.

Or if you are cooking your routine food, you can try some different recipe to stop that monotony in taste.

What is the motivation?

Find out the motivation to do a particular task that irritates you. Like, what do you achieve by doing that task? A task becomes boring when it is difficult, consumes too much time and energy and hinders the relaxation of your mind and body.

If you find reasons to stay motivated while doing that task, you will feel it to become less boring. Believe me! Like washing dirty dishes is quite a boring task; but when you visualize the results at the end, you will find it very satisfying and relaxing to finish it as soon as you can.

Increase your speed

When doing a task that you find boring, try to increase your speed. The sooner you complete a task, you will find less boredom and less irritation.

Break the task into parts

You can take the drudgery out of a task by breaking it into small pieces. For instance, if you are required to write a report, you can write one page of that report daily. It not only does away with boredom but also allows you to do the task in a more refined and detailed manner.

Otherwise, you can allocate some particular time span like you can decide that you will spend at least one hour daily doing it.

Reward yourself

Once you start the task, promise yourself to complete it the way you are required to do it. Take it as a challenge and reward yourself with self praise even after 5-10 minutes of doing it. And when you finish it, treat yourself as a winner and indulge yourself in a good feeling.

After finishing all your household chores, you can go for a nap or watch TV or have a nice drink or snack or anything you love.

How to deal with boring tasks – Conclusion

One thing I have observed is, when you do not complete an important task due to boredom you do not feel relaxed either. Your inner self does not permit you to skip that task which is part of your routine life. So why not give it your full dedication!
