Power of Concentration

Power of Concentration You might have often heard the phrase “I must concentrate . . . ” All of us use this kind of sentence once in a while even for doing even simple tasks like eating, walking, driving, writing and more serious tasks like aiming to complete a major project. The power of concentration is the key to success. Concentration helps revive our dormant energy and channels the power within us to smooth our path to better ideas, thoughts and success.

What is Concentration?

Concentration is one’s ability to focus on a certain thing or task of his or her own will. Concentration involves the control of attention. The most important fact about the power of concentration is that you can gather all your attention to a certain object, thought or idea and shut out all other irrelevant ideas, thoughts and sensation from the mind.

If you utilize your power of concentration, you have the ability to do one thing at a time instead of doing many things at time (thereby losing your attention and energy and time). All of us use our power of concentration every day in our life, but some people have developed this power.

Importance of Concentration

Doing as simple a task as eating requires putting your focus to what you are eating. To achieve success in even simple tasks, you need to pay attention to the job at hand. If you are driving your car and do not pay attention to the road ahead and the traffic, you are likely to meet with an accident. Gaining success involves putting complete concentration and attention on that job until it is accomplished.

The power of concentration is the most important thing. Living without this power would be like opening one’s eyes without seeing anything. ~ Haruki Murakami (Tweet this)

However, the question is how you can improve your concentration, when there are so many things that distract your attention? Concentration is about bringing all your senses to focus on one particular task or object and use all your combined powers to achieve the objective.

Another important quality of concentration is you should be able to fix all your attention to the task for whatever length of time you choose and able to keep your mind off the things you do not find important.

Benefits of Concentration

When you focus all your attention on a single thought or task, you do not allow your energy to dissipate to non-essential thoughts. When you want to take charge of your life, it is most essential to have power of concentration. When you develop your power of concentration, your mind will obey your ideas and keep you away from useless thoughts and worries. Moreover, this mastery over your mind will help you enjoy peace of your mind.

What you can gain with the Power of Concentration

Developing the power of concentration is very beneficial to you. It gives you control over your thoughts, peace of mind, better memory, inner strength, self confidence, freedom from useless thoughts, great focus, happiness, great decisiveness, efficient creative utilization, the ability to meditate and much more.

Hindrances in Developing Power of Concentration

In our daily life, our lifestyles do not allow us to develop our power of concentration. One of the important obstacles is our restless mind that is a slave to the thought process. We are always busy thinking something or other, which keeps our mind busy with an irrelevant thought process. If we develop concentration with the right approach, optimism and positive attitude, concentration can be fun.

Tips to Improve Concentration

If you train and perform exercises for the physical strength of your body, you need to train your mind to develop the power of concentration.

  1. Tell your mind repeatedly that you can concentrate. It helps program your mind.
  2. Start with simple exercises like sitting at a quiet place and paying attention to your breathing pattern. Over the same period, keep your mind off useless thoughts and pay more attention to your breathing pattern.
  3. Do not get tempted to multitask. Just do one thing at a time.

Conclusion

The most important thing here is that you need to realize its importance in your life and motivate yourself to start developing it. With a little planning, you can take time out of your busy schedule to relax in a quiet corner. You must not only concentrate your mind, but also the action of the eyes, ears and fingers.

In spite of being aware of the fact that good concentration is something valuable to possess, we do not tend to make any efforts to strengthen it. So, improve your power of concentration by telling yourself that the cost of it is, inattention.

Lack of concentration means failure to hit the bull’s eye. A wandering mind gathers nothing.
