Motivation Tips For When You Work At Home

motivation tips

Can you cook dinner, baby-sit if required and still remain focused on work? If the answer is yes, you are the right stuff for work for home opportunities. Working from home has become a reality these days.

Many people are opting to work from home for a variety of reasons. It offers flexibility and freedom to work. Many people go for it because they have certain commitments that prevent them from working traditionally.

Whatever the reasons you choose to work from home, one thing is sure, people who work from home find it a bit difficult to focus entirely on work due to lack of motivation.

Let me share some motivation tips for when you are working from home. Though I have focused on a freelance writer here, the advice still holds true for other work from home jobs.

1. Review your goals more often

Most people who work from home need to set goals. It is not necessary that you have very big goals. Start with a small one (such as earning $100 a week).

Reviewing your goals more often can help you stay motivated. Once you achieve your goal, set your next target like earning $200 a week. Work out what you need to do to earn that additional $100. Whenever you remember your goals, you will work harder to achieve them.

2. Take a break

Many people who work from home are often so engrossed in their jobs that they keep working continuously without breaks. It results in fast burnout and eventually it becomes hard for them to work anymore.

Sometimes, you might have felt that you are not getting enough ideas to write down or you are facing “Writer’s Block” (if you are a freelance writer). In that case, it is better not to force yourself to write; it will suppress your creative juices and decrease your motivation. To keep yourself motivated to work more at a steady pace, it is important that you take breaks in between.

For instance, you can take a walk in the garden, you can play with your kids, or you can complete any pending house chore. However, don’t stretch your break too long or you will lose focus completely!

3. Build a schedule

Structure your day according to a set schedule to keep yourself motivated. Make a “To Do List” every evening for the next day. Prioritize your tasks according to their importance.

Moreover, instead of assigning time to a particular job, define it by name like “Writing a 1000-word article or creating invoices for the month.” It will help you complete your tasks without limiting them by time.

4. Communicate your needs and schedule

Do not let friends and neighbors take advantage of your being at home all the time. It is important to inform people around you to respect your working hours. For instance, a neighbor or family member can take you for granted for babysitting whenever they need because you are at home or they may ask you to do errands for them occasionally because you are at home.

Do not let these instances happen to you often—though occasionally, in case of an emergency, it is fine. It is your responsibility to be tough and let others know that you are working like any other person in their office

5. Make time for family in your schedule

Do not make your schedule tight enough that you do not have any time for family. In that case, you will be demotivated soon due to the family issues popping up every now and then. Deal with your family concerns before you start.

Let your family know not to interrupt you until you stop working or unless there is an emergency. To maintain this decorum, it is important that you stick to the schedule you created to let them know when you are working and when are you going to stop working.

6. Surf the internet for motivation

Surfing the internet a few times a day—for short durations—is a good idea to keep your motivation going. It keeps you abreast with what is happening in the world around you.

Moreover, you can check a few websites for fun also to get your mind off the work for a short time. Reading interesting blogs related to your job can offer you greater motivation to work.

Conclusion

Working for home is not an idea that everybody approves of. However, people who love working at their own pace without any supervision will shrug off the idea of commuting to a workplace if they have this option available to them.

Though motivation is an issue with them initially, with passing time, they find out their own ways to deal with motivation. These are my motivation tips when working from home. You can make this list richer by adding your ideas too!
