5 Daily Habits of Highly Successful People

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, if you’ll let me? It’s the truth about the ‘secret’ to success. That one, Holy Grail, be-all-and-end-all answer that you’ve been looking for. I need to tell you just to get the weight off my shoulders.

Ready?
You sure?
Okay…

There is no secret to success.

It’s out there. You heard it. It’s been said. The truth if finally in front of you. And I feel a lot better for it.

The simple fact of the matter is that there are no secrets to success. No recipe. No formula. Just you and a ton of hard work. But there is a little more to it than that. There are things successful people do, every day, that’s a little different to what you’re doing right now. They approach their lives a little differently, and a little more constructively, than you are right now. There are some habits of highly successful people that has helped them accomplish great feats. And in this article you’re going to learn about the 5 daily practices they have, that you don’t. Then you’ll see how they can make success even easier to reach than it has been before.

Sound good? Here we go …

Simple yet powerful daily habits of highly successful people:

1. Exercise

Back in the early 2000’s, did you ever used to watch the show MTV Cribs? Where you would be shown around the house of all these super rich and successful people? Can you remember what most of these houses had? They had a home gym. Which I’m sure is no coincidence.

Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama and Richard Branson all exercise on a daily basis. They know that in order to tackle the demands of life, and keep their brains sharp, exercise is an important part of their strategy. Make time each day to exercise and you’ll see how much that extra strength and stamina really crosses over into your success.

2. Getting Organised

Every minute you spend in planning saves 10 minutes in execution; this gives you a 1,000 percent Return on Energy! ~ Brian Tracy (Tweet this)

Having your day planned and organised the night before can:

  • Increase performance
  • Reduce procrastination
  • Save you lots of time
  • Make you more money

Benefits you not only want, but need in your life. So how do you get organised like the elite? Well, there are a couple of different ways:

  • To-do lists: Simple and effective. This is a method I personally use, because without one, I’m lost in a whirlwind of deadlines and donuts.
  • Time management: Block off specific times each day for certain tasks. For example, 10:00 am-11:00 am is blog post writing.
  • Hourly alarms: This was suggested from Harvard Business Review. Try setting an alarm each hour and asking yourself “Was that last hour productive?”. If not, you need step it up.

Whichever method you choose – and there are hundreds – make sure you choose one you can stick to. There is no best plan. Only the one that works for you.

3. Eat The Frog

So Brian Tracy’s genius makes this list a second time with his impeccable thoughts on ‘eating the frog’. Mark Twain once said – “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”

True, right?

So when it comes to your day, the frog should be the most important (or hardest) thing you have to do:

  • Making your sales calls
  • Filing those reports
  • Schedule that meeting with the client you don’t like

Anything that needs to be done, but you’ll end up spending the rest of the day procrastinating about. This method has been used, subconsciously, by successful people the world over. Now it has a name and you can use it, just like they have.

4. Grow Your Network

Your network is of huge importance to you. And highly successful people recognize this. That means they go out of their way, daily, to grow it or strengthen it in as many ways as possible.

Whether that is:

  • Reaching out to new people
  • Making time to talk to old connections
  • Making new connections between people in their own network

And you should definitely be doing it too. Always make time to expand your network and connect to those that are already in it. You’re going to have to figure out how to do this on an individual basis, with lots of people. But, in order to learn the skills well, here’s two things I recommend you do:

  • Buy Keith Ferazzi’s book, Never Eat Alone, for a full breakdown of networking and how to create one that’s powerful.
  • Remember this quote from Jeff Goins – It’s not who you know, but who you help.

5. Personal Development

You need to spend time on personal development.

One thing that all successful people have in common is that they read. Furiously. They know they don’t have all the answers so they try and find them. And you should definitely spend more time reading each and every day. Because, well, you don’t have all the answers. And you’ve never lost intelligence from reading a book, have you. But now, with the magic of the internet, you don’t even have to read (although I recommend you do).

You can find all the personal development you need through:

  • TED Talks
  • Wisdom Times
  • YouTube Videos
  • Podcasts
  • Webinars
  • Seminars
  • Audiobooks

The list goes on, and on, and on.

Follow these simple habits of highly successful people and steer your life towards success and happiness. Simply put; stop standing still. Instead use your time wisely and spend some of it bettering yourself.
