Choosing the Right Career

Choosing the Right Career

Confused about what is the right career for you? Read on to find out how you can make a wise career choice that keeps you smiling day after day, year after year. Choosing the right career is, for most of us, a confusing and anxiety-riddled experience. It’s not just about passion but it also provides a good motivational spirit.

Choosing the Right Career – Question of Skill and Will

You might be good at something but you may not enjoy it. Mathematical concepts and problems may seem like the easiest things under the sun for you but you can’t envision yourself spending days locked inside a bank or office from 9 AM to 6 PM day after day after day. You might love something but you may have no competence at it whatsoever.

You may admire the clever use of colors and application of creativity one usually witnesses in paintings and design-related work, but you can’t get beyond painting a house in front of some mountains every time you try a hand at artwork yourself. So if passion and expected happiness can’t be your guides, what can be? Well, you can begin by choosing a career that fits well with your skills and values.

Our interests and talents are not always as aligned as we might wish them to be. This poses a challenge for youngsters who want to embark on a career journey and move from one success to another. The concepts of ‘Labor of Love’ and ‘Enjoy what you do’ are known and understood by most people but very few are able to find its practical application in the real world.

Take Yourself  into Account

As a human being, there isn’t just one facet to a person’s personality. We are multi-faceted and have a number of likes, dislikes, values and attitudes. All of these come into play when it comes to choosing the right career for ourselves. Knowing yourself well and taking your whole personality into account is one of the most important things you need to do in order to make a sorted-out career choice.

Know your attitude towards money well before you make a career choice. Do you want to make loads of money through your career or would you rather settle for mediocre earnings that are stable and risk-free. Are you okay to take on a stressful and demanding work schedule or would you rather live a balanced life?

Do you want a career that allows you the opportunity to travel the globe or are you averse to frequent work-related trips and transfers? Do you want a career that involves interacting with others and working in coordination with them or are you more comfortable with doing work individually? These practical considerations will play an important role in determining how satisfied you feel about your chosen work and career years down the line.

Take every Aspect of the Career into Consideration

There are some who say that we don’t need to love what we do, we can love other things in our life and let work be, just work. We can always make time for whatever else we love to do as a hobby or spend quality time with friends and family to live a wholesome life. The economic environment of today’s global world is dynamic which has positive as well as negative implications for individuals. Corporate careers have become riskier than ever before but new professions have sprung up too. Practical considerations like these need to be understood thoroughly before choosing a successful career option.

Choosing the right career sometimes will overcome our negative thoughts and fears.  Observe what triggers these and learn to overcome them through appropriate measures. You might feel that there’s not much income you can generate from the career that interests you, but understand that career path is not always equal to big money if you are just starting out.

Manit was a well-settled bank manager. He was a family man and loved his two children and wife dearly. He was extremely focused on his children’s happiness and education. Trouble started when he received transfer orders to a small suburban town from his seniors. He did not want to leave his wife and children behind alone and neither did he want to take his children out from a big city to a small town.

He decided to quit his job and start his own business. The move caused him many sleepless nights and his family had to suffer a lot of financial stress too as a result of this until his business before profitable. Had Manit taken this aspect of his job into account seriously at the time of taking it up, he could have avoided the unfortunate turn of events.

Conclusion – Choosing the Right Career

Choosing the right career is a very important decision. It requires serious thought and consideration. You can think long and hard and still not come up with a solution unless you have a framework to use to help you make a decision. However, it’s also important to consider how your decision feels. You need to get in touch with your inner self and think about how well the career options fit with your overall sense of self and personal fulfillment.

Besides considering your talents, aptitude and interests, check your attitude towards Money, People, Travel, Family life and Stress to make a truly-informed career choice. Know yourself well and then make your choice to ensure that you truly move from one success to another in your life as well as your career.

Consider all those ideas, at same time try to do more research on your choice of career. If you do something that you like, you will find yourself happier and more satisfied than ever. Success is not defined by the amount of money you own. After all money can’t buy happiness, happiness is only attained when you are doing something that you love doing. This is only what you can call true success!
