Were you aware that you have an invisible army in your body? The task of this army is to protect you against illnesses. This invisible army is commonly known as “immunity.” Boost your immune system with some herbs and spices available in your kitchen spice rack.

The immunity power of one person differs from another. Stress, bad diet, lack of sleep, alcohol abuse, smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, bad hygiene, exposure to radiation and dehydration are some of the factors that may reduce your immunity power. However, if the above factors lessen immunity power then nature has also provided us with natural means to boost your immune system.

Almost all cuisines include the use of ginger in one form or the other. Ginger is known to have anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiviral, fever reducing and analgesic properties. Having all the above-said properties, it is needless to say that ginger is a super-immunity-boosting herb. For many centuries, ginger has been used as a digestive aid.

Ginger is a very popular natural remedy for nausea caused by seasickness and morning sickness during pregnancy. Ginger is helpful in treating colds, clearing catarrh and soothing a sore throat.

2. Turmeric

All Indian dishes are incomplete until a generous amount of turmeric is added to them. Turmeric is a popular spice used in the Asian region that has many healing properties.

It is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and has a generous dash of antioxidants. The active ingredient present in this spice is curcumin, which has been scientifically proven to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties.

After I was enlightened with the multiple health benefits of this bright yellow spice I started adding half a teaspoon more of it to every dish I prepared. As a matter of fact, even doctors recommend having warm glass of milk with half a teaspoon of turmeric powder added in to ease body pain.

3. Garlic

Garlic is another remarkable herb having multiple health benefits that support and boost your immune system. Garlic has a high concentration of sulfur compounds which are responsible for garlic’s effectiveness against diseases caused by bacteria, virus and fungi. Herbalists recommend that every individual must have one clove of fresh garlic every day to ward off colds and flu.

Note: Some people are allergic to garlic (including me), in that case try other herbs and spices to boost your immune system.

4. Oregano

I love sprinkling dried oregano flakes on breads and pastas (and now that I know its good for health I love this herb even more). This herb contains calcium, beta carotene, Omega-3 as well as Vitamin C. Oregano oil has antimicrobial and antiviral properties and is capable of protecting the body against yeast infections.

5. Cloves

Cloves have been used in many ancient medicine sciences as a painkiller for toothaches. Clove is the richest source of antioxidants amongst all spices. Cloves have antiseptic as well as germicidal properties that protect the body against infections, act as a digestive aid and ease arthritis pain.
